Loans By Kathy: An Appreciation for Wildlife

An Appreciation for Wildlife

An appreciation for wildlife is something I learned at an early age.  I have always loved animals (except for the cats  that cause  my allergies to flare up).  When I was young, two of my favorite places were the Lincoln Park Zoo and Brookfield Zoo both in Chicago.   I had the opportunity to appreciate wildlife up close and personal.  While visiting a friend this afternoon, just after I pulled in, this young buck come walking up to the driveway.

He was so sweet I just had to snap his picture to share with you.

Jared, this little guy was so sweet, he just watched us, watching him!

Kathy I believe if he wasn't on the driveway he would be pretty hard to spot.  Blends in so well with the leaves. At least he wasn't out in the road.

Kathy, We have so many deer around us. They come right on our lawns. Need to be careful driving...when you see one there are more to follow.

Robert, I was actually standing on the front deck so I was probably about 6 feet above him.  I was afraid to move down the stairs.  I was sure that I would have scared him off.

Margaret, you are right about that!  I saw one cross in front of me one night last week on my way home.  AFter I avoided that one, his playmate was right behind him.

Kathleen, Thank you for posting this photo!  I'm a big fan of animals.  Just this week we've been taking care of a red tailed hawk that came in to WERC (where I volunteer).   I look forward to being able to set it free when it's healthy and ready.

Deer blend so well into their surroundings I almost didn't see him.  Have the same problem here on a daily basis.  I can hear them but have to watch for movement near the woodline to see them.

Kathy, it's great to be able to still encounter wildlife right at ones door step.  Love the photo and I can only imagine  how exciting it must have been to see this deer standing there.
