Citizenship and Constitution Day - September 17, 2012

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is a combined event that is annually observed in the United States on September 17. This event commemorates the formation and signing of the Constitution of the United States on September 17, 1787.

In light of all that has transpired during the last 10 days, today more than ever we need to remember what it means to be an American citizen.  On a personal note, I am eternally grateful to my great grandparents for having the courage to leave their homeland to build a better life here in the USA.  It was their choice, and I think a good one.

During the time I was in school, our day always started with reciting the pledge of allegiance.  Every time I hear those words, I always remember all of those that have given so much for our liberty.

Kathy- This day deserves so much more recognition.  I too am so very grateful that my grandparents came to this country so long ago.  No matter any inner strives we may have we must never forget all that we have here in our great country.

Kathy...

I guess that I missed that today ... but it's a worthwhile commemoration! Thanks for bringing the day to our attention.

Richard, it was my pleasure.  Don't know what was going on, but I was having trouble posting to AR this afternoon.

Hi Kathy -- I wasn't aware of Citizenship Day and Constitution Day. You're right to note that given the activities in our world the past week or so -- it's important to remember all of the great aspects of our country.

We are very fortunate to be Americans and still be able to live free.

Hope you have a nice weekend.

Thanks for this great history lesson, Kathy ... and the reminder that we are indeed very lucky to be citizens of this country.  Good to remember as we head into the Presidential election ...

Kathy, I am also glad my grandparents came from Bohemia to a better life. We should always remember our origins and the brave people who helped us to become Americans!
