keep them coming back - part 5

I have been a member of the Marietta Business Association for the last 5 years.  Every month the Marietta Business Association sponsors three events, a breakfast meeting, a lunch meeting and an after hours event.  These events provide a great opportunity to network with other business professionals and to share information about our own business.  

During the lunch meeting there is usually a guest speaker or a member that discusses more in depth about their organization. This month, the guest speaker was Jay Handler from Greenville, SC.

Jay made some excellent points in his presentation.  Specifically, he talked about how important it is to tell our story to our customers and clients.  But most importantly, we must be the storyteller, don't let someone else write your story.  As I was listening to him, I thought about how many times we let someone else finish for us.

The best way to get more referrals is to tell your story.  It is my opinion that when we lose that personal touch, when we delagate too many duties to other staff/team members we begin to lose that connection.  As we try to build our business it is an easy trap.  Let's make an effort not to fall for too long.

In keeping with the spirit of my series regarding enhancing our business through development of referral partners and customers  at the end of the meeting, I asked him for what he would consider his top recommendation for connecting with past clients to develop more referral business.  Check out his comments in the video.
