Do You Wear Your Seat Belt?

It seems that there have been several blogs recently about driving situations or poor driver behavior.  The dangers of using a cell phone or texting while driving are always being discussed in the media.  It has long been illegal to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  In my opinion it is disappointing that we have to legislate common sense.

Years ago car manufacturers began installing seat belts because it was believed that these restraints would save lives and they have.  But only if you wear it!

All it takes is one driver that is reckless and it change a life as it did for my cousin Tim.

"Six years later, Timothy Sheehan, 55, doesn’t remember much about the car accident that changed his life.

The Arlington Heights cop was stopped at a red light on Euclid Avenue and Northwest Highway in February 2006 when an intoxicated driver plowed into his squad car, causing traumatic injuries to Sheehan’s brain, heart and body. The Arlington Heights resident was in a coma for eight and half weeks and suffered more than 65 fractures."  Here is the link to the rest of the story  Article about Tim's story

Tim Sheehan speaks during a Trauma Day panel at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge (Jennifer Delgado/Tribune)

Tim continues to serve the Arlington Heights community by speaking to groups about his accident, how it changed his life and to influence positive behavior.

I am inspired by Tim's attitude and dedication.  We are all very proud of him.
